One place to understand the work.

Dolomite began with a coordination problem: several projects could be moving at once, yet the important questions stayed scattered. What changed? What was blocked? What actually needed a decision?

The product brought planning, missions, project history, and human decisions into a shared command center. A concise overview led into a deeper workbench for each project.

An instruction becomes a mission.

A mission carried its brief, permitted actions, dependencies, and a place to report progress. Scheduling connected the next runnable piece of work to the available execution capacity. When a human decision was required, the system made that decision visible.

The handoff mattered as much as the launch. Decisions and completion records travelled into the next brief so each piece of work could build on what came before.

Design for the decision.

The state layer gave each observation a source, a time, and a freshness budget. Aging information became visibly unknown, while independent checks kept the rest of the dashboard useful during a partial failure.

This changed the design problem from displaying more information to displaying information a person could interpret and act on.

An enduring part of the practice.

The work brought complex automation into a form a person could direct: clear permission boundaries, visible decisions, thoughtful failure states, and a record that survives the session.

That combination became the project’s central design principle: give every automated action a place in a larger, understandable workflow.

Systems design

When a dashboard should say “unknown.”

Dolomite’s August 5 state-layer design gave each observation a source, an observation time, and a freshness budget. A value that became too old could be shown as unknown instead of being styled as current. The retired project remains a useful study in making the limits of a system visible.
